Mr. Stathis's Artwork

Early Artwork while studying Art in College 1983-1985

Mr. Stathis writes of this piece: "I stayed-up throughout the night in the University Art Room, all night long without sleep, working the final touches until sunrise, to get the feeling on Jesus's face to the point at which I felt too it conveyed what I thought it ought to. Because a post card of Michaelangelo's La Pieta was used, Mother Mary seems statuesque, but that in itslf conveys a unique feeling of the moment too."

Again this work, though done when so young, Mr. Stathis says, "I'll never do better."

This was a pencil piece. The original was lost but this Xerox copy existed for this print here. It conveys the essence of the work. It's the UAS Library, and depicts, as Mr. Stathis envisioned it, himself as a 12-year-old, before he would read all that he read between 12 and 24 (his age when he drew this). Some of those books shown with titles on the shelves.

This was entitled by Mr. Stathis, Little Girl in Mediation. He painted it in shades of Pink and Alizarin Crimson from a picture he snapped of a little girl at a school he was volunteering at. Again, only a Xerox copy was to be found.

"Not bad for my first Oil Paintings....."

Mr. Stathis volunteered a lot at Capital School in Juneau. This painting is of the new-born daughter of 1st Grade Teacher, Emily Hard, whose classroom Mr. Stathis spent a lot of time in. He gave the painting to her as a gift.

Mr. Stathis stood outside on several Saturday Mornings painting this view of the small University. He added in an attempt at a self-potrait of himself showing care for a child of a nearby mother. He entitled it: We Can Teach Only When We Have Learned.

View of his 3 Paintings from his first Semester of learning Painting.

Close-up of the piece he entitled: I am in the Heart of the Earth.

This was insprired from a Renaissance piece by someone or other. Done with Pastels.

These above were all Early works of Mr. Stathis's Art endeavors.

This is a recent work done in coloring pencil. It had begun while doing it with a select set of 5 students, but the students never finished theirs. Mr. Stathis went on to work on his. Title: The Enneagram, In Motion Within Worlds
